Nussha is located in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, and manufactures plastic Japanese-style plates, bowls, and tableware that are more durable and less expensive than their more traditional wooden counterparts. Their series in done in white and pastel colours has become wildly popular outside of Japan, and they can now be bought in Tokyo. In December 2009, Nussha products hit the shelves at Japan Brand, and in pop-up stores in New York, as well as through the mail-order catalogue Felissimo.
‘By blending modern design with the 5,000 year-old history of lacquer craft, we are promoting the understanding of and appreciation for Japanese tableware. It is the design work that contributes to the world, while retaining the traditional value.’
‘Since knives and forks may scratch lacquer tableware, chopsticks are recommended.’
‘Not only in Japan, but also abroad at exhibitions, interior shops, shops at MoMA and other museums, our products are displayed in more than 30 countries of the world.’
