Salon de thé François

This tea salon dates from 1934, back when Kyoto was a centre of left-wing, anti-war politics. It was a gathering place for leading literati and philosophers, including author Osamu Dazai, and funnelled money to the then-banned Japan Communist Party. These days it has a nostalgic appeal, with an interior last revamped in 1941.
